A Backyard Supper with Friends

Hubby Vance was off to Macon for the Bulldog Club Road Tour event and I decided to skip it have some friends over for a pool party. In the middle of a busy work week, I decided to support some of our advertisers and let them do the cooking for me. We have the best of Athens in our guide so I knew it would be a good spread. I ended up having as much fun picking up everything for the evening as I did at the party.
Let me take you on my journey. First stop was to visit Corie and her crew at Ike and Jane. They are always so upbeat and fun. Everyday they have some sort of challenge for customers to get 10% off. I have succeeded in the past by rubbing my belly and patting my head while ordering but their prompt yesterday had me stumped. Order in a medieval voice. What would you have done? I opted just to enjoy Corie’s delectable descriptions of the entire cupcake gallery and pay full price.
Next stop was downtown Depalma’s. I did not warn them I was coming with an odd request but in typical hospitable fashion they accommodated. I left with two cups of Charmaine sauce for $8 to add to my own penne later. They may not want me to share that as it didn’t seem like there was a policy for this but I did chime in that I was having Amanda Dufur for dinner. It helped that her husband is at Depalma’s Eastside and an owner.
Onward to The National for Sliders and a hummus tray. I set it all up in advance with Peter Dale, chef and owner. When I arrived they were gracious and let me come in the kitchen and watch the prep. Let me tell you those little Sliders get a whole lotta love!
I threw together my spinach salad with goat cheese, pecans and strawberries. We stopped at the Farmer’s Market in Greensboro on the way in town from St. Simons Sunday so the strawberries were divine. My friend Linda Lokey just shared a super easy and refreshing summer cocktail with me. You take fresh squeezed lemonade, freshly squeezed by Chick Fil A, and add in lemons, mint and vodka.
Corie and the cupcakes…

Miss Dugas liked them!

Maybe Mr. Abernathy did more!

Ben the Sliders were delicious!

The secret ingredient to the cocktail: Chick Fil A Lemonade!

Miss Sinkwich and Miss Dugas enjoyed each other…

They had to bob and weave so Mr. Sinkwich didn’t shoot them!

I love my cute neighbors! Lindsey and Alison…

It was fun to be with these two buddies Tonya and Amanda…

And of course I love being with my oldest and dearest friend Lacy and her kids!
